What is Tourette syndrome?

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder, which most often begins between the ages of 2 and 21, and lasts throughout life. Between 0.4% and 3.8% of children ages 5 to 18 may have Tourette's. Extreme Tourette's in adulthood is a rarity. TS is NOT degenerative and doesn't have an affect on the intelligence. The people with TS can expect to live a normal life span.

Symptoms:

- rapid, repetitive and involuntary muscle movements and vocalization called “tics” ;
- behavioral difficulties.

According to Tourette Syndrome Association of Australia  tics are experienced as a build up of tension, are irresistible and eventually must be performed. Typically tics increase as a result of tension or stress and decrease with relaxation or concentration on an absorbing task. TS symptoms have long been misconstrued as a sign of behavioral abnormality or “nervous habits”, which they are not.

Young fashion designers raise the awareness of mental health.

t-shirt
" It's okey to not be okey. "
Many people love to wear a t-shirts with quotes and sayings. They identify themselves with the messages that are written on their t-shirts.
I love graphic t-shirts too, especially those with inspirational and encouraging quotes

A few days ago I found a really interesting website for a clothing company. The name of that company is Wear Your Label. This company has an interesting goal and vision. They are creating a conversation about mental health through fashion.

The co-founders of this company are Kyle MacNevin (22) and Kayley Reed (21). The young designer lives with generalized anxiety disorder and ADHD, and his cofounder, Kayley Reed, is recovering from anorexia. They created this line of clothes as a way to give a platform to their own experiences with mental illness.

How to improve your communication with others?

One of the most important thing for healthy and long-term relationships (read our post about healthy relationship) is the good communication. Having good communication is a result of active listening. If you are a bad listener you wouldn’t have a good communication with the people around you and your relationships with them will constantly struggle. So, here are 8 important things that good listeners do. If you want to improve your communication with others , start to practice them from today.
(If you missed our post on how to improve the communication inside your relationship, you can read it: here.)

1. They are active listeners.

- We already mentioned that good communication depends on active listening. The good listeners are active listeners. They don’t allow other things to take away their attention (for example: their mobile phone, TV, or other people) while they are talking with someone. They put everything down and focus on the person in front of them, so the other person knows that they have an interest in what they have to say.

- While someone else is talking, the good listeners don't interrupt, talking over them or finish their sentences for them.

- They wait and watch for nonverbal communication, like gestures, facial expressions and eye - movements. The good listeners don’t just listen with their ears, but also with their eyes. They watch and pick up the additional information being transmitted via non-verbal communication.

12 things you should remember about introverts.

We all know someone who is an introvert. Or maybe you are an introvert person and sometimes others have difficulties to understand how you feel in some situations. Many people think that the introverts don’t enjoy having fun or being around other people, but that is not true. They just want to be around their closest friends or they just need time to be quite.
So, if you are an extrovert and you want to understand and love someone who is an introvert, please remember these important things about the introverts.

1. They enjoy spening some time alone - That gives them a chance to gather their thoughts and recharge their energy.

2. They like other people - They aren’t necessarily anti-social. They just don’t get energized by people and sometimes they need a little extra time to get closer with someone. They want to get to know you better before they actually show that they enjoy your company.

1.Honest and open communication.

In a healthy relationship, if one of the partners is bothered by something, they should openly talk with their partner about that, instead of holding it in.

2. Respect and patience.

Mutual respect is essential for a healthy relationship. The partners should listen to one another. They should value each other’s opinions, wishes and feelings and listen to their partner patiently in a nonjudgmental manner.

What is Alice in Wonderland syndrome?

Do you remember "Alice in wonderland" and that little sign that said "drink me" and when she did she shrank or grew gigantically tall? But what if that was not just a fairy tale?

Alice in Wonderland syndrome, named after the novel written by Lewis Carroll, also known as Todd's syndrome or Lilliputian hallucinations, is a disorienting neurological condition that affects human perception. It’s a syndrome of distorted space, time and body image.

This syndrome is usually associated with visual hallucinations. Visual hallucinations cause a person to see things, which are not there in the real sense, or things, which are there but are seen incorrectly.
