7 foods to boost your mental health

I am sure you know that eating healthy food is good for your mental health as well as your physical health.

Eating healthy food can help you improve your heart and reduce the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and cancers, but it can also boost your cognitive functions and reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders.

Here are seven foods that can help you boost your mental health.

1. Fatty Fish - According to Prevention, seafood like salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, and sardines are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, powerful and versatile nutrients that are essential for a healthy mind. Researchers at Tufts University found that people who ate fish 3 times a week and had the highest levels of DHA in their blood slashed their risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 39%.

2. Blueberries -The consumption of blueberries may be effective in improving or delaying short term memory loss.

3. Pumpkin seeds -The pumpkin seeds will help you get your recommended daily amount of zinc, vital for enhancing memory and thinking skills.

4. Beets - Beet roots contain nitrates, which are converted into nitrites by bacteria in the mouth. These nitrites help open blood vessels in the body, increasing blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which helps boost its function.

5.Spinach - Nitrates can also be found in spinach, increasing blood flow to the brain and improving mental performance. In addition to preventing or delaying dementia, the nutrients in spinach can also aid in preventing cancer cell and tumor growth.

6. Chia Seeds - Chia seeds are high in protein and rich in omega 3 fatty acids, containing healthy fats to oil the body and mind. They help control blood sugar levels, aid in hydrating the body, and contain a good source of antioxidants.

7. Tomatoes - The lycopene, a powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes, could help protect against the kind of free radical damage to cells which occurs in the development of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's.

So, I hope that this post motivates you to care more about your mental and physical health by carefully choosing what you eat every day.
